Microsoft Network Versus my MAC
May 23, 2011
Ok!
So I have completely integrated to the Mac. All is well with two exceptions.
1. Outlook for the Mac is not an enterprise solution so if you are sharing your calendar with an assistant or someone else and they are logged into Exchange and add an appointment, it does not show up on your calendar. Very bad news.
2. Browsing servers and files, it can take several hours for a document that has been saved on your network to be available to your Mac.
I am still very happy with my decision, I love my Mac but I would say for the average person it is not feasible to make the switch.
The Mac is not for the faint of heart

Well I am pretty much finished with the transition from PC to Mac:()
I would love to talk about how easy it was, but that would just be a lie! I love my Mac. It is smoother more refined and makes sense more often then the PC; and don’t get me started on viruses and lockups. By far the Mac is a better unit, and since the iPad, software has doubled for the Mac so that really helps. However, do not commit to such an under taking with out the extra time. There were times I would have killed for my PC back; just so I could get the job done faster, and Outlook is still not working right. After getting used to the Mac, things got better and much quicker but still not as productive; unless you count the time on a PC dealing with lockups, viruses, and trojans. Make sure you have a great network engineer handy, they can make your life so much easier (thanks Nate you rock). I would do it all over but I would probably wait until I had a little more time and things were not as busy, but hey gotta love the pain
To be or not to be

As I reflect on all of the different services we offer, and the ones we have provided over the years. I cant help but think about what type of company we would be today if we would have stuck to a particular vertical market or service. I ask because I believe it is time to trim the service offering again, it has become too much. What do you cut back on and how? There are at least a half dozen clients that depend on us for any single service I would like to eliminate. If you go with least profitable there will be more clients affected, if you go with least clients affected then you cut a large profit service.
Mac Attack

Well I finally did it! I crossed to the DARK SIDE I replaced my HP laptop with a new Mac Book Pro. I installed VMWARE Fusion 3 and installed Window 7 on a virtual machine and I have never been happier. I have been playing around with this idea for a while and I am glad I went through with it. The ease of use, the stability, the real plug and play has been great. Let’s not forget the incredible back up software “Time Machine” the Mac comes with.
More to come:)
