Before any code is written or any database is created, we will sit down with you and go through your business process, step by step, at an overview level. Large business processes will be sliced up into smaller logical segments which can be detailed more easily. Initial ideas and input will be gathered from potential users. We will continue to gather ideas, input and dig into each business process throughout the development lifecycle. The initial business process documentation, which typically requires between 2 to 5 meetings (depending on the size of the business process and application), ensures we will be headed in the right direction from the very beginning.
After the business process has been dissected and documented, we will begin creating mockups for the screens of the application. (For larger projects, mockups may be presented and reviewed while the business processes are still being detailed, so that the project timeline can move forward as quickly as possible.) Mockups consist of user interfaces at the simplest level – this lets us show you what we imagine the software will look like and how it will function, before we start development. We will review the mockups with you, detail our notes and explain how we plan to make the application function. The mockup process ensures that the end result will fit the needs of the business process. After the mockups have been reviewed and approved, the development process will begin.
During the development process our software engineers work hard to take the project to the next level and through completion. This does not mean we hide in a dark room with a laptop and communication will stop; we keep communication open at all points throughout the development process – we will have questions and we will need your feedback; the more involved you are, the better. Nearing the end of the development process, we will release a beta version of the software to you so that you can begin testing it. (Larger projects may require the beta to be released in sections or modules so that testing can begin sooner, in order to keep the project moving in the right direction.) We will take your feedback from the beta and review each item carefully to make sure that you will be pleased with the end result.
